I was at a hospital ER recently with a friend. On the gurney on the other side of the curtain was a 91-year-old woman, who kept calling out for her late husband, and her long-deceased father and mother, sometimes in English and sometimes in Yiddish. The woman’s daughter told us that her mother had lost her parents in WWII in a camp. It was heartbreaking.
