You couldn’t drag me away from Drag Me to Hell

Sam Raimi returns to horror:

Mr. Raimi’s new movie, which stars Alison Lohman and Justin Long, is a grown-up horror flick, if there is such a thing.

I’m really looking forward to it despite the cheap shot at the horror genre from the dead tree critic. My favorite horror movies aren’t slasher flicks, but has supernatural elements played straight.

I thought that “grown-up” comment was odd since, apparently, the writer has no problem praising his Spider-Man flicks just a few paragraphs earlier. I’ve got nothing wrong with Spider-Man, though I wonder who sees a horror film and thinks, geez, when are these kids going to grow up and watch some comic book adaptations.

Great point.

Well, I figure if Sam Raimi is doing it, the movie will be gorgeous, well-acted, and weirdly amusing in places. I’m just not sold on the storyline, you know? Hmm, why would somebody just get randomly cursed and attract demons? Was she driving too slow on the interstate? Cut the Starbucks line? Was she responsible for canceling Firefly? I can only imagine.

I’m with you on the supernatural horror, though – and there’s never enough of it out there.
