Buffy’s diary

<  Buffy’s diary

I watched very few episodes of Angel when it came out. I watch little television as it is and I had a new baby in 1999 followed by another followed by many nights writing my own vampire novel. I loved the episodes I saw. I just was time starved during its too brief run. So thanks to the DVR, I’ve been catching the episodes on TNT and watching them. The continuity between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel is tremendous. And it’s interesting to go back and see how the characters developed.

Here’s some dialogue from the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

BUFFY: Brought you some dinner. It’s a little plateless, sorry. So! What’d you do all day?

ANGEL: Uh, I read a little. And just thought about a lot of things. Buffy, I…

BUFFY: (sees her diary’s been disturbed) My diary? You read my diary? That is *not* okay! A diary is like a person’s most private place! I… You don’t even know what I was writing about! ‘Hunk’ can mean a lot of things, bad things. And, and when it says that your eyes are ‘penetrating’, I meant to write ‘bulging’.

ANGEL: Buffy…

BUFFY: And ‘A’ doesn’t even stand for ‘Angel’ for that matter, it stands for… ‘Achmed’, a charming foreign exchange student, so that whole fantasy part has nothing to even do with you at all…

ANGEL: Your mother moved your diary when she came in to straighten up. I watched from the closet. I didn’t read it, I swear.

BUFFY: Oh! (realizes she’s given herself away) Oh.
